Every new Parliament requires the presence of the Governor General to perform certain traditional ceremonies: such as the arrival of the Governor General's carriage before the Parliament buildings, the procession with the Governor General to the Senate Chamber, the invitation by the Governor General to the Commons to stand at the bar to the Senate, and the Speech from the Throne as it is read by the Governor General.
